Havaianas and Dolce & Gabbana launch second collaboration together

The fashion market is once again witnessing the strength of the union between Havaianas and Dolce & Gabbana. After the instant success of the first drop, the second limited collection of the collaboration arrives with even more boldness: four new prints, sophisticated finishes and the launch of a new platform, the Boho model, with a tractor sole and macramé straps.

But behind the maximalist aesthetic and cultural appeal lies a complex operation involving contracts, intellectual property and image management, elements that can only be sustained with the right legal support.

In collaborations like this, crucial legal issues need to be planned and very well aligned between the brands. Who holds the rights to the prints? How long will the exclusivity last? How will the profits be divided? What if a new design created during the collaboration is used in the future by one of the brands? These are questions that need clear answers in the contract.

Fashion Law is precisely at these intersections: between the creative and the strategic. In a collaboration of international importance such as this, the legal perspective accompanies all stages, from the design conception to the launch, covering issues such as:

  • Assignment or licensing of copyright;

  • Registration and protection of new models (such as the Boho shape);

  • Rights to use the brand and branding;

  • Contractual planning with exclusivity, confidentiality and limitation of liability clauses;

  • Control of international distribution and use of image;

  • Protection of the reputation and integrity of each brand involved.

Partnerships between global and Brazilian brands must also reflect the appreciation of local culture. As Havaianas' global VP, Maria Fernanda Albuquerque, rightly pointed out, this new collection is also a way of reaffirming Brazilian identity in the global fashion scene. This is where Fashion Law becomes even more necessary: to ensure that intangible assets, such as national creativity and the cultural perspective on design, are respected, valued and protected.

Specialized legal advice comes in before the collab takes place and remains after the launch. Because, in high-impact collaborations, preventing risks is as important as delighting the end consumer.

In the fashion world, growing safely is a long-term movement. And this starts with clear contracts, well-designed strategies and the support of those who understand the particularities of the sector.
